TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona Softball began the 2023 season with a 9-1 run-rule victory over Long Beach State at the Candrea Classic.
The Wildcats (1-0) scored nine runs on 13 hits.
Izzy Pacho,
Carlie Scupin, and
Devyn Netz hit home runs in the victory. Pacho went 3-for-3 with five RBI and a grand slam in her first at-bat of the season.
Jasmine Perezchica went 3-for-3 as the leadoff batter.
Netz (1-0) picked up her first win of the season and struck out three batters. At the plate, she went 2-for-3 and blasted her first career home run.
Arizona scored five runs on two home runs in the first inning on Pacho's grand slam and Netz's solo shot. In the second inning, Pacho drove in another run with a single to left field. LBSU scored one run in the bottom of the second on an RBI single.
Olivia DiNardo had her first collegiate hit – a single to left – to bring in Arizona's seventh run of the game in the third inning.
In the fourth, Scupin hit a two-run homer to extend Arizona's lead to eight runs. Senior
Brianna Hardy entered the circle in the top of the fifth, allowing only one hit.

Arizona continues the Candrea Classic with a double-header on Friday, Feb. 10. The Wildcats will face Kansas at 4pm MST and Long Beach State at 6pm MST at Hillenbrand Stadium.
