TRACK HIGHLIGHTS
The Arizona men's 4x100m relay team ran a historic race at the West Prelims. The team of
Trayvion White-Austin,
Brian Limage,
Carl Hicks, and
James Onanubosi clocked a time of 38.82, breaking the school record in the event that was originally set in 1990. The team came away victorious in the quarterfinals of the event in the West Region after recording their record-breaking time and winning the event's first heat. Their time is also tied with Florida in the East Region heading into the NCAA Championships.
"We put our trust out there in each other," said Hicks. "Especially out there with Tray to get us out into a good position. We trust each other to get the stick around and close it in the end."
Limage added, "This one felt great and we're feeling good going into Austin."
The last time an Arizona team qualified for the championship meet in the 4x100m relay was in 2019, however, an Arizona team hasn't made the finals of the event since 2007. The Wildcats will have the opportunity to do that in Austin. It is also the first time that any of the team's members have advanced to the NCAA Championships in their careers. Senior White-Austin was the team's starter, followed by freshman Limage, sophomore Hicks, and freshman anchor Onanubosi. Earlier in the year at the Jim Click Shootout, the team clocked a time of 39.15 which put them third in school history and earned them Pac-12 Men's Track Athletes of the Week honors. This is the first time the team has gone sub-39 seconds in the event.
"We have to keep the same energy," said Onanubosi about heading to the NCAA Championships. "We're on a high right now, so we have to keep that momentum going forward to Austin."
Trayvion White-Austin followed up his leg in the 4x100m by running a time of 21.15 in the quarterfinals of the men's 200m.
The Wildcats ended the night with the men's 4x400m, where they ran a time of 3:07.57. The team consisted of
Carl Hicks,
Trayvion White-Austin,
Logan Hasher, and
Isaac Davis.
The West Prelims wrap up tomorrow with the completion of the women's events. Field competitions begin at 1:00 p.m. MST and running events start at 5:00 p.m. MST. The Arizona Women will be competing in the discus, high jump, 100m hurdles, 800m, and 200m. Live results for all the action can be found
