Wildcats to Host Dave Murray Invitational on Friday

TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona Cross Country is set to host their lone home meet of the season, the Dave Murray Invitational, on Friday at Randolph Golf Course in Tucson. Both the men and the women will look to defend their crowns at the meet, as at last year's event the Wildcats swept the competition.

The competition begins at 7:00 a.m. MST on Friday with the men's 8k and will finish with the women's 6k at 7:45 a.m. MST. This year's invitational will be held at the Randolph Golf Course, differing from last year's location and course. Arizona will go up against Arizona State, Grand Canyon, New Mexico State, Northern Arizona, UNLV, and UTEP at the competition. Live results for both races can be found here.

The Wildcats were last in action two weeks ago at the UC Riverside Invitational. Iker Sanchez Lopez highlighted the meet for the team, winning the men's 8k competition among collegiate runners and finishing second overall with a PR time of 23:43.5. That is the highest individual finish for the Wildcats so far this year. He was followed by his twin brother, Ian Sanchez Lopez, who placed 11th overall. On the women's side, Sailor Hutton was the team's top-finisher, placing 13th overall in the 6k. She was followed by Alisa Lyesina, who placed 17th, and Sorcha Shiu, who placed 21st in her first collegiate cross country race.

Overall, the men's team placed third and the women's team finished fifth in Riverside. At the team's first meet of the season, the George Kyte Invitational, both the men and the women finished third as a team. Senior Sailor Hutton has been the top-finisher for the women at both competitions, followed by fellow senior Alisa Lyesina as the team's second runner. For the men, Cooper Quigley was the top finisher at the George Kyte Invitational and Iker Sanchez Lopez was both the top-finisher for the team and overall for collegiate runners at the UC Riverside Invitational.

In the latest USTFCCCA Regional Rankings, the Arizona Men found themselves ranked 13th in the West Region entering Friday's competition.

At last year's Dave Murray Invitational, the Wildcats swept the competition, winning on both the men's and women's sides. Hutton and Lyesina finished fourth and sixth overall, respectively, for the women. For the men, Ian Sanchez Lopez (2), Brennan Foody (3), Iker Sanchez Lopez (4), Quigley (8), and Noah Jodon (9) all finished in the top ten. Additionally, the Arizona Women also won the competition in 2021. The Wildcats will look to replicate their success at this year's competition.

A meet recap will be posted to ArizonaWildcats.com detailing the competition results. Live updates will also be posted to @ArizonaTrack on Twitter.
