STREAKONOMICS: Shortstop
Mason White and outfielder
Brendan Summerhill both enter the weekend with active six-game hit streaks, the longest active streaks on the team. White and Summerhill are both one game shy of matching the longest hit streak by a Wildcat this season, a seven-game streak from true freshman
Easton Breyfogle who hit safely in each of his first seven career collegiate games. Â Outfielder
Brendan Summerhill holds the longest active on-base streak on the team, having reached base safely in each of his last 17 games played. Over that 17-game stretch, Summerhill has posted a .350 on-base percentage; he has drawn nine walks and collected 19 hits during the streak. Summerhill's 17-game streak is the longest on the team this season.
Garen Caulfield (6 games) and
Mason White (6 games) also sport extended on-base streaks.
SHORTSTOP SLUGGERS: Sophomore infielder
Mason White, the Wildcats everyday shortstop this season, currently leads the team and ranks third in the Pac-12 with nine home runs through the first 23 games of the season. Dating back through the 1998 season (StatCrew era), no Arizona shortstop has hit more home runs in a single season. White is just one home run shy of besting Jason Donald (2004) and Brad Hassey (2002) who he currently shares the record with.
GOTTA EARN IT: Arizona's pitching staff has excelled this season at limiting walks and striking opponents out. The Wildcats has issued the fewest walks (64) in the Pac-12 this season, while their 210 strikeouts and 9.53 K/9 rank fourth and fifth on the circuit, respectively. On a national stage, Arizona's impressive 2.90 BB/9 rate is the fourth-best in Division I, while their 3.28 strikeout-to-walk ratio ranks fifth.
NOTHING BUT NETZ: Fifth-year senior
Dawson Netz has established himself as one of the most experienced pitchers in Arizona Baseball history. Going into this weekend, Netz has logged 79 appearances in his collegiate career — 14 starts and 65 relief — the seventh most games pitched in Wildcat history. He is just two appearances shy of moving into a tie for sixth place with Ben White (1993-96), the father of Dawson's current teammate,
Mason White. If he were to match his team-leading 32 appearances from last season, he would move into sole possession of first place with 106 games pitched.
PITCH PERFECT PAC: During Pac-12 Conference play, the Arizona pitching staff has posted an impressive 3.79 ERA across nine games. The last time the Wildcats posted a conference ERA below 4.00 was in 2016, when the Arizona staff logged a 3.52 ERA across 30 Pac-12 contests. Through the first three weeks of conference play, Arizona has limited opponents to four or fewer runs in seven games; all seven games have come in succession, a streak they carry into this weekend's games against UCLA.
EXTRA EXTRA, READ ALL ABOUT IT: Arizona has consistently taken advantage of the large dimensions at Hi Corbett Field since moving there in 2012 — in the decade-plus since the move off campus, the Wildcats hold the Pac-12 lead with 2,237 extra-base hits (second: Stanford, 2,115). During that stretch Arizona has paced the conference in doubles seven times and triples seven times.
HOME SWEET HOME: Since Arizona Baseball moved to Hi Corbett Field for the 2012 season, the Wildcats have enjoyed a tremendous home field advantage. Over those 12+ seasons, Arizona has posted a home record of 275-115, winning games at a .705 clip. Their home winning percentage over that stretch is the second best mark in the conference, while their 275 home victories are tops in the conference.
CHASING MILESTONES: Arizona Baseball is just two wins shy of registering 3,000 all-time victories. The Wildcats would join the ranks of just nine other programs to boast 3,000 program wins. As it currently stands, Arizona is the 10th all-time winningest program in the history of college baseball. Four of the winningest programs in college baseball history are current members of the Pac-12 Conference.
