TUCSON - Arizona women's tennis posted its sixth win of dual match play on Sunday, defeating Maryland in a 4-2 decision.
The Wildcats got a pair of quick wins in doubles to secure the team point.
Brandelyn Fulgenzi and
Kayla Wilkins took down Francesca Feodoroc and Ela Platenikova, 6-2, before
Midori Castillo-Meza and
Belen Nevenhoven got the 6-3 win over Diya Challa and Kallista Liu.
Maryland got on the board first in singles when Minorka Miranda got a 6-0, 3-0 win by retirement over
Teja Tirunelveli. No. 98
Reece Carter tallied the first singles point for the Cats soon after, defeating No. 85 Selma Cadar 6-2, 6-1.
Tanvi Narendran defeated Francesca Feodorov, 6-2, 6-2, to put the Cats one away from clinching. Maryland's Maria Budin brought the team score to 2-3 with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Wilkins, but Fulgenzi clinched the Wildcats win with her 6-2, 7-6(5) takedown of Challa on court five.
Arizona is back in action Friday, Feb. 16 in Santa Barbara, Calif. as they take on Texas Tech at 2:30 p.m. MST.
