SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Men's Tennis closed out day one of the Battle in the Bay tournament this afternoon at California Tennis Club with three singles victories.
Freshman Wildcat
Zoran Ludoski opened singles representing Arizona this morning with a 6-4, 6-3 defeat over #42 Kenta Myoshi of Illinois. The win marks Ludoski's first singles match, and first victory, as a Wildcat. Native to Zrenjanin, Serbia, the freshman came to Arizona with a career high ITF ranking of 52 and with J300 and J400 titles under his belt.
Arizona's second ranked victory of the day came from another first year,
Oskar Jansson. After dropping the first set 0-6, the Wildcat came back to defeat #91 Savriyan Danilov of San Diego 0-6, 6-3, 6-2. Native to Gothenburg Sweden, Jansson came to Arizona as part of the top five recuiting class and holds four ITF doubles titles and one singles title.
Thursday's third win came from junior
Jay Friend. Ranked #15 in the nation, Friend defeated Justas Trainauskas of Pacific in straight sets 6-4, 7-5. Last year, Friend earned several honors including ITA Southwest's Most Improved Player and All-Pac-12 First Team for the 2024 season.
Arizona will resume singles play tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. MST.
