Extine Lowers School Record on Day One of Corky Classic

LUBBOCK, Texas - Arizona Track & Field posted strong marks to open the Corky Classic at the Texas Tech Sports Performance Center Friday.

In a very competitive field, the Wildcats advanced to a handful of running event finals and saw personal bests in the field and on the track. Zach Extine highlighted day one of competition for the Wildcats, lowering his school record time in the men's 60m hurdles after originally breaking it last week.

FIELD HIGHLIGHTS
In the men's weight throw, Zach Landa finished fourth with a throw of 65-0.75 (19.83m) and Michael Ogbeiwi placed fifth with a personal-best heave of 62-10 (19.15m). Youssef Koudssi and Sam Hala'ufia finished eighth and ninth, respectively. Tyler Michelini won the B section of the event.

In the women's weight throw, Tapenisa Havea placed seventh with a personal best heave of 57-0.75 (17.39m), breaking her previous best from last week. Mackenna Orie also placed ninth in the event.

TRACK HIGHLIGHTS
After breaking the school record in the men's 60m hurdles last week, Zach Extine kept the momentum going in the event today. In the first round of the hurdles, Extine clocked a time of 7.76, just 0.02 off his school record, to win his heat and post the second-fastest overall time, advancing to the event's semi-finals. In the event's semi-finals, Extine lowered his 60m hurdles school record time to 7.66, advancing to the event's finals with the fourth fastest time of the day. He also won his heat. In the event's finals, Extine matched his personal best and school record time of 7.66 again to finish runner-up in the event. Additionally, Yan Vazquez ran a personal best time of 8.14 and Bogdan Vidojkovic clocked a time of 8.25 in his Wildcat debut.

In the first round of the men's 60m, Trayvion White-Austin clocked a time of 6.68 to finish sixth and advance to the event's semi-finals. In the event's semi-finals, White-Austin finished eighth with a time of 6.70 to take the last spot and advance to the event's finals. In the event's finals, White-Austin clocked a time of 6.71 to place fifth overall. Additionally, Brian Limage clocked a personal best time of 6.81 in the event, marking the second consecutive meet that he has improved his PB.

In the first round of the women's 60m hurdles, three Wildcats finished in the top 24 and advanced to the event's semi-finals: Hollan Powers, Taylen Wise, and Brooke Nordman. Powers finished seventh with a time of 8.37 and won her heat. Wise clocked a personal best time of 8.45 and Nordman matched her personal best time of 8.71. In the event's semi-finals, Wise clocked her second personal best of the day, running a time of 8.35 to finish eighth and advance to the event's finals. She edged out her teammate, Powers, who finished ninth with a time of 8.36. Nordman finished 23rd overall. In the event's finals, Wise finished sixth overall with a time of 8.41.

Two Wildcats advanced to the women's 60m semi-finals: McKenna Watson and Jenica Bosko. In the first round of the event, the two finished 19th and 20th, both posting times of 7.48, which marked a personal best for Watson, to advance. In the event's semi-finals, Watson lowered her personal best for the second time on the day, posting a time of 7.46 to finish 20th. Bosko finished 22nd with a time of 7.49. Presley Money clocked a personal record in the event as well.

Kara Mickelson finished eighth overall in the women's 800m. Christian Simmons ran a personal best time in the men's 800m.

In the women's 400m, Ava Simms ran a personal best time of 54.96. Isaac Davis posted a time of 47.43 in the men's 400m.
