"This is truly the next competition towards the NCAA and Big 12 Championships," said Director of Track & Field/Cross Country
Fred Harvey. "We will have a great opportunity to once again go head-to-head with teams that we will face at both championships. Our first two competitions proved that we have the capabilities of success, now we just need to follow up."
Â
Last week's competition, the Corky Classic, was hosted by Texas Tech and featured a very competitive field. At the meet,
Zach Extine broke the school record in the 60m hurdles for the second time this season, lowering his previous record from the season opener at Northern Arizona. Extine finished second in the event and his time of 7.66 ranks eighth in the NCAA and third in the Big 12.
The Wildcats also dominated the shot put with
Zach Landa winning on the men's side and
Tapenisa Havea winning on the women's side. Landa posted a monster indoor personal best throw of 64-0.25 (19.51m) which ranks second in the NCAA and first in the Big 12. Overall, the Wildcats posted a flurry of personal bests, totaling 24 at the competition along with some marks that rank among the best in the nation and the conference.
