San Diego, Calif.- Arizona Women's Tennis is back in action this week as the Wildcats travel to San Diego for the 2025 ITA Southwest Regional Championships, looking to make an early fall statement against some of the region's top programs.
Play opens Thursday morning with qualifying singles. At 9:00 a.m. MST, Karissa Ghigiarelli kicks things off against Kim-Michaela Zahraj (LMU). The Wildcats will be well represented in the 10:30 a.m. slate, as Zoya Chulak takes on Daria Malaescu (LBSU) and Stephanie Shogreen battles UCLA's Mia Jovic. All three are aiming to earn their spot in Friday's main draw.
The main draw begins Friday with a full lineup of Wildcats ready to take the court. At 10:00 a.m., Maria Garcia (UA) opens against No. 25 Kate Fakih (UCLA), while No. 51 Josie Usereau meets Lidia Gonzalez (LMU). Danielle Tuhten and Tanvi Narendran are also set to compete Friday with match details still to be announced. No. 122 Martyna Ostrzygalo will face Ekua Youri (UCSB), with match time to be announced.
Doubles play also kicks off Friday morning at 9:00 a.m. Shogreen and Ghigiarelli will team up to face Mahendran/Hossam Salah (USC), and Narendran and Tuhten square off against Curcic/Kim (UCR). The No. 22-ranked duo of Ostrzygalo and Usereau earned a first-round bye and will await their next matchup. Rounding out the morning, sophomores Garcia and Chulak will challenge Tirunelveli/Gjinaj (SDSU) — a notable matchup as former Wildcat Teja Tirunelveli returns to face her old teammates after two seasons in Tucson.
Last fall, Ostrzygalo and Midori Castillo Meza made a strong run and claimed the consolation doubles title, and the Wildcats will aim to carry that success into this year's competition.
Scores and results will be updated throughout the weekend on the ITA website and on Arizona Women's Tennis social media accounts.
