TUCSON, Ariz. – The Sand Cats opened the Arizona Invitational, defending home sand at Bear Down Beach with a pair of decisive victories. Arizona started the day with a 4-1 win over Central Arkansas, then wrapped up the afternoon with a flawless 5-0 sweep of Colorado Mesa.

The Wildcats kicked off Day 1 of the Arizona Invitational with a 4-1 win over Central Arkansas, controlling the match across most courts.

Kylee Fitzsimmons and Brooke Blutreich led the charge on court two, delivering a 21-8, 21-14 victory over Madelyn White and Kenzie Foley to secure Arizona's first point.

Ashlyn Zilliken and Madeline Walker kept the momentum going with a composed performance on court three, handling Callie Mullins and Katie Atkinson 21-16, 21-16.

On court four, Annie Kost and Elin Kaiser outmatched Liliana Irizary and Audrey Cathcart, winning in straight sets (21-6, 21-18) and putting Arizona up 3-0.

Meghan O'Meara and Brooke Boyko closed out the match on court five, securing the fourth point for the Sand Cats with a 21-10, 21-15 win over Naya Tan and Reegan Siewert.

The lone point for Central Arkansas came on court one, where Adri Nieves Papaleo and Kate Phillips fell in a tight three-set battle to Anna Linskey and Riley Melton (18-21, 21-17, 12-15).

The Sand Cats returned to the sand in the afternoon and were unstoppable, sweeping Colorado Mesa 5-0 without dropping a single set.

Nieves Papaleo and Phillips bounced back strong, dominating Riley Daugherty and Lizzy Hood on court one (21-9, 21-12) to set the tone early.

Fitzsimmons and Blutreich followed with another powerful showing, taking down Ellie Ask and Brooke Hartman 21-13, 21-13.

Zilliken and Walker continued their perfect day, winning an intense match on court three against Barett Nolan and Ania Swartzendruber (21-19, 22-20) to give Arizona a 3-0 lead.

Kost and Kaiser were again in control, cruising past Taylor Scherff and Jessica Passi 21-10, 21-18 on court four.

O'Meara and Boyko wrapped up the sweep with a dominant win over Stormi Tadlock and Lauren Rohlwing (21-18, 21-15) on court five.

Arizona closes the weekend by taking on UTEP at 11:00 a.m. MST.
