TUCSON, Ariz. — The Arizona Wildcats (18-5, 5-1) secured their first-ever Big 12 road series win with an 11-4 victory over the West Virginia Mountaineers (19-3, 2-2) on Sunday morning.
Shortstop
Mason White delivered what turned out to be the decisive blow with a two-run home run in the top of the eighth; it gave Arizona a 5-4 lead they would build on and never relinquish.
Catcher
Adonys Guzman recorded his first career multi-HR game; his first was a solo home run that put Arizona on the board in the early innings, while his second was a two-run blast in the ninth inning that expanded the Cats lead to the final margin of 11-4.
Arizona's bullpen was dominant, combining to allow just two runs on four hits over the final 6.2 innings of the rubber match. Right-handers
Tony Pluta and
Casey Hintz (5-0) worked the final five frames and held the Mountaineers scoreless on just one hit. Hintz earned his fifth win of the season.
