TUCSON, Ariz. - Senior
Colton Smith has been named the Big 12 Player of the Year, headlining a series of postseason honors awarded to Arizona Men's Tennis announced Wednesday.
Along with Big 12 Player of the Year, Smith was named to the All-Big 12 First Team Singles and All-Big 12 First Team Doubles with his partner, Inaki Cabrera-Bello.
The honors come after an undefeated singles record for Smith, who went 5-0 in regular season and 3-0 in postseason Big 12 play in the No. 1 singles position. Overall, Smith is 22-2 on the season and has maintained a top-five ITA Singles since January, with a career-high of No. 3.
Also highlighting the awards was
Jay Friend receiving Big 12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year after a stellar academic and athletic performance. Friend went 5-1 in regular season conference play and helped lead Arizona to the Big 12 Tournament title going 3-0 in singles in the No. 2 position. The junior also received All-Big 12 First Team Singles and All-Big 12 First Team Doubles honors alongside his partner,
Eric Padgham. Overall, Friend is 32-4 on the season and is currently ranked No. 6 in the country after reaching a career-high No. 5 earlier this year.
