TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona fifth-year pitcher/infielder
Devyn Netz has been named one of 25 finalists for USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year, announced on Wednesday morning by USA Softball. The USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year is considered the most prestigious honor in Division I women's collegiate softball.
Netz is hitting .359 and leads the Wildcats in home runs (17), RBI (58), victories (19), and strikeouts (98). The fifth-year two-way player ranks ninth in the NCAA in strikeout-to-walk ratio (5.44) and walks allowed per seven innings (1.00) and she also ranks 18th in the nation with 19 victories. Her 58 RBI ranks 22nd and her 17 home runs ranks 24th in the nation.
The veteran pitcher threw her first career perfect game against BYU and became the first Wildcat to toss a perfect game and hit a home run in the same game.
Defensively, Netz has a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage and has assisted in 15 double plays.
This is the first time Netz is a finalist for the award. The list of 25 will be cut to 10 finalists on May 14 and then three on May 19. The award will be announced prior to the Women's College World Series.
Netz and the Wildcats are back in action this weekend when they head to Houston to close out the regular season beginning Friday, May 2.
