TUCSON, Ariz. — The Arizona Wildcats (23-9) improved on their impressive home record with an 11-9 victory over the New Mexico State Aggies (17-16) on Tuesday night at Hi Corbett Field.
With the two teams locked in a 9-9 tie, designated hitter
Easton Breyfogle gave the Cats the late lead with an RBI triple down the line in right in the bottom of the eighth, scoring
Tommy Splaine following his leadoff single. Breyfogle scored five pitches later on a sac fly from
TJ Adams, creating the final margin of 11-9 in favor of the Wildcats.
Shortstop
Mason White blasted a pair of home runs, moving himself into a tie fourth in program history with 36 career dingers. White ended the night going 3-for-4 with a trio of runs and five RBI.
The Wildcats used six pitchers, the final three of which posted scoreless innings of relief. Right-hander
Julian Tonghini (4-1) struck out two in the eighth and earned his fourth win of the season, while fellow righty
Tony Pluta worked a clean ninth with two strikeouts to collect his sixth save.
