TUCSON, Ariz. - The University of Arizona baseball team dropped the second game of a four-game series to the UConn Huskies on Friday night, falling 4-0.
The Wildcats recorded three hits and drew two walks, while UConn tallied five hits and eight walks.
Arizona's pitching staff consisting of starter Owen Kramkowski and relief pitchers Mason Russell, Matthew Martinez, Maclain Roberts, Sam Round, and Andrew Jacobs combined to record 16 strikeouts, marking a season high.
The Huskies jumped out to an early lead, as they scored a run in their first at-bat to take a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Arizona managed to get runners on base in the bottom half of the frame via a single by Andrew Cain and a walk by Maddox Mihalakis; but, they were unable to score.
UConn tacked on another run in the top half of the third inning, as back-to-back errors by Wildcats to start the half inning allowed two runners to get on base, and a sacrifice fly brought one home.
UConn added a run in the top of the seventh and one more in the top of the ninth to take a 4-0 lead. Arizona was unable to get going offensively, as they fell to the Huskies in the second contest of the series.
The Wildcats will return to the Hi Corbett Field Saturday night, as they will face UConn again at 6 p.m.
