TUCSON, Ariz.– Arizona Wildcats opened the weekend at the Mustang Roundup with a 0-5 loss to No. 4 Cal Poly before wrapping up the day with a 5-0 sweep against CSUN.
Game 1 No. 19 Arizona 0, No. 4 Cal Poly 5
The Wildcats battled hard against No. 4 Cal Poly. However, the Cats ended up falling short in the end against the Mustangs, losing the match 0-5.
Regan Holmer and
Carlie Cisneros dropped their match in straight-sets as the #1 pair, 12-21, 18-21.
Brooke Boyko and
Sadie Moore played well as the #5 pair, just getting beat in the first set 18-21 before dropping the second 11-21, giving Cal Poly a 0-2 lead in the duel.
Ashlyn Zilliken and
Madeline Walker played a competitive match as the #2 pair but fell just short in two sets 16-21, 17-21, giving Cal Poly a 0-3 lead in the duel.
Sophia Winter and
Jamie Streit played another hard-fought match, the #4 pair dropped the first set 12-21, and dropped the second set, 12-21 as well.
Meghan O'Meara and
Adri Nieves Papaleo fell short for Arizona as well with a straight-set 21-23, 14-21, loss as No. 4 Cal Poly completed the sweep against the Cats.
Game 2 No. 19 Arizona 5, CSUN 0
Arizona bounced back strong against CSUN, taking three matches in straight-sets and two matches in three-sets, completing an Arizona sweep.
Meghan O'Meara and
Adri Nieves Papaleo got things started for Arizona in the second match of the day. The #3 pair picked up a dominant straight-set win, 21-12 and 21-12.
Sophia Winter and
Jamie Streit fought hard through a tight two-set match and came out on top 21-18, 21-19, giving the Cats a 2-0 lead in the duel.
Sadie Moore and
Brooke Boyko also took their match in straight-sets, 21-17, 21-17, giving Arizona the clinching point for the duel and a 3-0 lead.
Ashlyn Zilliken and
Madeline Walker won their match in a hard fought three-set match. The #2 pair fought hard and got the win, 24-22, 19-21, 15-10.
Regan Holmer and Carli Cisneros completed the sweep for Arizona winning in another three-set match, 24-22, 19-21, 15-10.
The Cats will be back in action tomorrow for two games as they face Santa Clara and UC Davis to finish up the weekend.
