TUCSON, Ariz.– The Arizona Wildcats finished the weekend at the Mustang Roundup with a 4-1 win against Santa Clara followed by another win with a 3-2 final against UC Davis.
Game 1 No. 19 Arizona 4, Santa Clara 1
The Wildcats came out strong on day two against Santa Clara, taking the first four matches and winning the duel 4-1.
Sophia Winter and
Jamie Streit won the first point for Arizona as they won by retirement by Santa Clara in set 1.
Meghan O'Meara and
Adri Nieves Papaleo played well as the #3 pair taking their match in straight-sets 21-19, 21-17, giving Arizona a 2-0 lead in the duel.
Regan Holmer and
Carlie Cisneros played a competitive match as the #1 pair going three sets. The pair came out on top to earn the clinching point for the Cats, 18-21, 21-19, 15-12.
Ashlyn Zilliken and
Madeline Walker played another hard-fought match, the #2 pair dropped the first set 23-25, and came back to take the second and third sets, 21-17, 15-10, to extend Arizona's lead to 4-0.
Brooke Boyko and
Sadie Moore fell short for Arizona. The #5 pair took set one 21-11, before dropping a hard fought second and third set, 24-26, 14-16, to give Santa Clara it's lone point of the match.
Game 2 No. 19 Arizona 3, UC Davis 2
Arizona carried the momentum into its second match of the day against UC Davis. The Cats beat UC Davis 3-2 to finish 3-1 on the weekend at the Mustang Roundup.
Ashlyn Zilliken and
Madeline Walker got things started for Arizona in the second match of the day. The #2 pair picked up a dominant straight-set win, 21-14 and 21-15.
Sadie Moore and
Brooke Boyko fought hard through their tight two-set match but ended up falling short, 19-21, 18-21, tying up the match for UC Davis at 1-1.
Carlie Cisneros and
Regan Holmer also took their match in straight-sets, 21-16, 26-24, giving Arizona another point in the duel and a 2-1 lead.
Sophia Winter and
Jamie Streit battled through a tight three-set match. The #4 pair picked up the first set, 21-19, before dropping the next two sets, 19-21, 11-15, and tying the match for UC Davis at 2-2.
Adri Nieves Papaleo and
Meghan O'Meara were able to come out on top in their three-set match, 19-21, 21-12, 15-12 clinching the duel for Arizona and giving the Cats their third win on the weekend.
Arizona will host the Arizona Invitational on Bear Down Beach next, Mar. 20-21, where the Cats will face Tarleton State (Fri.), UTEP (Fri.), Missouri State (Sat.) and San Francisco (Sat.).
