LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The 47th-ranked Arizona men's tennis team fell to Pac-10 opponent, 15th-ranked USC, 6-1, Friday afternoon at Marks Tennis Stadium. The Wildcats fall to 5-2, while USC improves to 5-2. Arizona lost the doubles point and only managed to win one singles match during Friday's action.
In doubles, sophomore Colin O'Grady and freshman Roger Matalonga improved the team-long winning streak to six doubles matches, after defeating Daniel Langre and Ruben Torres in the No. 3 position, 8-5. Competing at the No. 1 singles was the tandem of sophomore Paul Warkentin and junior Paul Hagman. The pair fell to Prakash Amritraj and Jeff Kazarian, 8-3. Freshman Daniel Andrus and junior Whi Kim fell to Johan Berg and Parker Collins, 8-4.
Matalonga also extended his singles record to 7-0, after defeating Jeff Karazian in the No. 6 slot, 6-2, 6-4. In the No. 1 position, Kim fell to Prakash Amitraj, 6-4, 6-2. No. 75 Johan Berg needed three sets to defeat Carl Hagman in the No. 2 position, 6-2, 6-7, 6-1. O'Grady lost his first match of the spring to Daniel Langre, 6-0, 6-3, in the No. 3 slot. Warkentin lost to Ruben Torres, 6-4, 4-6, 10-6, on court four, while Andrus fell to Parker Collins, 6-3, 6-0 at the No. 5 position.
Arizona returns to action Saturday, Feb. 15, when they play No. 1 UCLA in Los Angeles, Calif.
