TUSCON, Ariz. - The No. 24 Arizona men's tennis team handed Arizona State their eight loss of the season by defeating the Sun Devils, 6-1. Arizona earned the doubles point by virtue of winning two of the three doubles points and went on to win five of the six singles matches for the 6-1 victory. Arizona improved to 11-6 with the win, while Arizona State fell to 7-8. This match did not count towards Pac-10 standings, while the match on April 17, in Tempe, Ariz., will.

With the help of ASU's double faults, the No. 1 doubles team of junior Colin O'Grady and sophomore Roger Matalonga quickly took down the team of Andy Colombo and Jonathan Kinsella, 8-2. On court two, after jumping out to a quick 4-0 lead, senior Whi Kim and sophomore Tim Mullane lost the match, 8-4, to Chris Stewart and Daniel Davies.

With the doubles point waiting to be decided, all eyes fell on court three where senior Tom Lloyd and junior Paul Warkentin faced Clinton Letcher and Ryan McBride. Arizona held on after leading by a break for the majority of the match to win, 9-7.

In singles action, Davies sprained his ankle on the first point of the match against Mullane on court six. After attempting to play on the injured ankle, Davies retired, giving Mullane the victory, 1-0 def. (inj).

Down 2-0, Arizona State closed the gap by earning a victory on court four. Christopher Biro defeated Lloyd, 6-1, 6-2.

Arizona went on to decisive victories to win the match 6-1. O'Grady defeated Kinsella, 6-3, 6-3, on court three. Warkentin clinched the match on court five with a, 6-2, 6-2, win over McBride. Kim defeated Stewart, 6-3, 6-3. No. 64 Matalonga held serve on match point to win the match, 6-4, 6-4.

Arizona will hit the courts again on Friday, April 2, as they travel to Oregon to continue Pac-10 competition. First serve is set for 1:30.
