EUGENE, Ore. - The No. 21 Arizona men's tennis team increased its winning streak to four after defeating the Oregon Ducks, 5-2. Arizona won the doubles point by winning two of the three matches, while going on to win four of the six singles matches for the, 5-2, victory. Arizona improves to 12-6 overall and 1-2 in the Pac-10, while the Ducks fall to 8-7 overall and 0-3 in Pac-10 competition.
In doubles, the No. 1 team of junior Colin O'Grady and sophomore Roger Matalonga fell to Sven Swinnen and Aaron Spencer, 8-6. On court three, junior Paul Warkentin and sophomore Tim Mullane won, 8-2, for the first doubles win. Clinching the doubles point for Arizona on court two were senior Whi Kim and sophomore Daniel Andrus dropped Manuel Kost and Thomas Bieri, 8-5.
In singles, the top half of the lineup proved too strong for the Wildcats, yielding Oregon their only points.
Arizona's depth was the key to the victory Friday, as Arizona swept the bottom four courts in straight sets. O'Grady earned a victory on court three over Thomas Bieri, 6-4, 6-1. Senior Tom Lloyd defeated Marckus Schiller, 7-6, 6-3, on court four. In the No. 5 position, Andrus cruised past Aaron Spencer, 6-3, 6-0. Warkentin won on court five, 6-1, 6-1, over Vlad Pino.
Arizona will hit the courts again Sunday, April 4, as they travel to Seattle, Wash., to take on the Washington Huskies.
