TUCSON -
The Arizona Wildcat men's tennis team fell 4-1 to the TCU Horned Frogs at LaNelle Robson Tennis Center. The Cats dropped the doubles point and claimed only one singles victory. Earning Arizona's only point of the day was Junior Giacomo Miccini on court one.
In doubles play, Mario Urquidi and Miccini were first to finish on court two. The junior duo topped Max Stevens and JT Sundling, 8-5, for Arizona's only doubles win of the day. On court three, Fredrik Ask and Sumeet Shinde on court one. The Arizona team fought a close match with Nick Chappell and Will Stein, forcing a tiebreaker. Ask and Shinde fell 8-7 (5) and the doubles point went to TCU.
In singles action, Andre Vidaller was first to finish in his match against Superloano on court four. Vidaller was unable to win a set as he dropped the 6-3, 6-2 decision. On court five, Urquidi forced a tiebreaker against Rudolfo Bustamante but fell, 7-6 (3). In the second set, Urquidi was unable to gain momentum as he was edged, 6-3. Next to finish was Ask on court two. The junior from Olso, Norway fought a close match with Arnau Dachs. In the first set, the court entered a tiebreaker where Ask fell, 7-5, to drop the set, 7-6 (5). The second set was also a hard fought battle but Dachs once again edged, 7-5. The win marked the fourth point for TCU and clinched the match in their favor.
Earning Arizona's only point of the day was Miccini on court one. The junior from Recanati, Italy fought two close sets with Chappell but was able to maintain the lead. Miccini claimed the first set, 6-4, and in the second set maintained momentum in the 7-5 decision.
With the match decided courts three, where Thompson lead Lugones one set to none, and court six where Takeda trailed Sundling 4-2 in the first set, were left unfinished.
With the loss Arizona falls to 9-4 while TCU improves to 10-4.
The Cats will be back in action on Wed. March 20 as they host Oklahoma at LaNelle Robson Tennis Center. The teams are set to face off at noon.
