Cats Travel to Denver, Face Two Foes

Cats Fall 6-1 to No. 10 Oklahoma

The Arizona Wildcat men's tennis team fell, 6-1, to the No. 10-ranked Oklahoma Sooners on Wednesday. Earning Arizona's solo point for the day was junior Mario Urquidi who clinched a singles win on court six.

In doubles play, Urquidi and partner Giacomo Miccini took on Guillermo Alcorta and Axel Alverez Llamas on court two. The Arizona duo was able to secure only one win in the 8-1 decison. On court one, Fredrik Ask and Naoki Takeda trailed Peerakit Siributwong and Lawerence Formentera, 7-5.

In singles action, court four wrapped up first where junior Andre Vidaller played Webb. Vidaller was unable to secure a win in the first set, falling 6-0 and was unable to complete the second set, retiring as he trailed 2-0. Second to finish was Miccini on court one. The junior from Recanati, Italy fell 6-1, 6-4 to No. 17-ranked Paval. On court two, Ask finished next in his match against No. 44-ranked Alcorta. In the first set, Ask was able to secure only two games as he fell, 6-2. In the second set, the Oslo, Norway native fought a much closer battle with Alcorta but was unable to earn the win as he was topped, 6-4. The match marked the fourth point for Oklahoma and clinched the match in their favor.

On court three, Thompson was next to finish in his match against Alvarez Llamas. The junior from Brisbane, Australia dropped the first set, 6-1, but rebounded to claim four games in the second set. His efforts wouldn't be enough as he fell, 6-4.

On court six, Urquidi finished next in his match against Formentera. The El Paso, Texas native dominated the first set, claiming a 6-2 victory. In the second set, Formentera began to fight back and forced the tiebreaker but Urquidi was able to outlast Formentera as he claimed the set and the match, 7-6(4). L

ast to finish was Shinde on court five. The sophomore from Pune, India dropped a close first set to Leonard Stakhovsky, 6-4, but bounced back to claim the second set, 6-3. The court entered a super-tiebreaker where the two fought a close battle but Shinde was unable to secure the win as he dropped the tiebreaker, 12-10.

With the loss Arizona falls to 9-5 while Oklahoma improves to 11-4.

The Cats will be back in action as they take their third road trip of the season for a pair of matches in Louisville, KY. On March 23, Arizona will take on Louisville and on March 24 the Cats will play Morehead State.
