The Arizona Wildcat men's tennis team fell for only the third time in the 2013 season in a 5-2 decision against Texas Tech. The Cats and the Red Raiders met on neutral territory in Denver, Colo.
In doubles action, Arizona picked up the doubles point with wins on courts one and three. On court one, Fredrik Ask and Giacomo Miccini and Mario Urquidi battled Felipe Soares and Jeff Bryan on court two. The junior duo kept the score tight but fell 8-6. On court three, Naoki Takeda earned Arizona's second doubles win of the day with a 8-6 victory over Francisco Zambon and Gabriel Wonderley.
In singles play, Ask was topped, 6-2, 6-1, by Manzini on court one. On court two, Miccini clinched the first set over Dias, 6-4. Dias bounced back to edge Miccini, 6-2, 6-4, to claim the match. Thompson battled Soares on court three. The junior from Brisbane, Australia dropped his first match of the season in the 7-6 (4), 6-4 decision.
On court four, Andre Vidaller took on Raphael Pfister. Vidaller was edged, 6-1, 6-2. Earning Arizona's only singles victory of the day was Shinde on court five. The sophomore from Pune, Inida topped Wonderley, 6-4, 6-4. On court six, Uruqidi played Zambon. The junior from El Paso, Texas kept the match close but ultimately fell, 7-5, 7-5. The loss marked the first for Urquidi in the 2013 season.
With the loss Arizona falls to 8-3 while Texas Tech improves to 8-5.
The Cats will be back in action on Sun. March 10. Arizona is set to take on Denver at noon.
