Tucson, Ariz. – Sunday's match at the Robson Tennis Center left the Cats with the short end of the stick as they lost to Stanford 4-3 in a dramatic finish.
With the match tied at three apiece, Trevor James fell to Robert Stineman 6-3, 7-5 in the decisive match. The loss moves Arizona to 11-10 on the year.
Arizona got of to a quick start in doubles, as Kieren Thompson and James made slight work out of Trey Strobel and Jamin Ball to take the match 8-4.
Shortly after, Matt Dunn and Mario Urquidi fell to Daniel Ho and Stineman 8-5.
With the fate of the doubles point on their shoulders, Sumeet Shinde and Naoki Takeda rose to the occasion in a tight match vs. Maciek Romanowicz and John Morrissey. The duo gave Arizona the 1-0 lead off of the 8-6 win.
Urquidi extended the Arizona lead to 2-0 after winning his match against Strobel in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4.
Shinde followed suit on court three, beating Daniel Ho 6-3, 6-3.
On court one, Thompson fell against Morrissey 6-1, 6-1, while Takeda lost 6-4, 6-0 to Romanowicz on court two.
Will Kneale was the other Cat to compete on the day, and was defeated by Anthony Tsodikov 6-3, 6-3.
Arizona hits the road next weekend, as they take on Washington Friday, April 4 and Oregon Saturday, April 5. Friday's match vs. the Huskies will be televised on the Pac-12 Networks at 11:30 a.m.
