Arizona Blanks NAU 7-0 For Third Straight Win

TUCSON, Ariz.---This one was never in doubt on Friday, as Arizona rolled to a 7-0 sweep over in-state foe Northern Arizona out at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center.

For Arizona (4-5), the victory marks the Wildcats' fourth win in their last five matches, while they've now defeated the Lumberjacks 7-0 in five consecutive seasons. UA has also swept its opponent in back-to-back contests.

The Cats won the doubles point for a third consecutive match, as Matt Dunn and Shoki Kasahara teamed up to take down Felix Schumann and Tomas Hons, 6-1 on court three, while David Mushayev and Jason Jaruvang followed suit with a 6-1 victory of their own to notch the doubles point and a 1-0 lead for Arizona.

The Cats kept things rolling in singles play, as Jason Jaruvang (10-8, 4-4 Dual) made quick work of Alexandre Locci, earning a 6-0, 6-3 victory on court three to put Arizona in front 2-0.

Senior Sumeet Shinde (6-1, 6-1 Dual) then came through with his fifth straight victory, as he took down Jordan Gobatie 6-1, 6-0 from the No. 1 position to spot the Cats a 3-0 advantage. Shinde is now a team-best 4-1 from the No. 1 spot this year.

Then it was Trevor James (4-5, 2-4 Dual), who earned his first match-clinching victory of the spring, earning a 6-3, 6-2 win over Jackson Lee on court six.

With the fate of the match already sealed, the Wildcats continued to pad their lead, as Naoki Takeda (14-3, 6-0 Dual) claimed a straight-set 6-4, 6-2 win over Kester Black on court two, extending his win streak to a team-best seven consecutive matches.

With Arizona up 5-0, Shoki Kasahara (12-9, 5-3 Dual) kept the Wildcats' perfect day intact, as he grinded out a 6-2, 3-6, 10-6 win over Adi Zilberstein on court five, while David Mushayev (6-8, 4-3 Dual) finished the deal, posting a 7-6 (11-9), 7-5 win over Felix Schumann on court four to bring the final to 7-0.

The Wildcats will get right back after it, as they take on No. 73 Utah State, Sunday at noon out at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center.
