TUCSON, Ariz.--- The Wildcats did it again, this time earning a dramatic 4-3 victory over No. 73 Utah State, Sunday out at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center for their fourth consecutive win.
After claiming back-to-back sweeps in its previous two outings, Arizona (5-5) had to dig deep in this one to beat a Utah State (9-2) squad that had only suffered one loss entering the day.
The Wildcats claimed the all-important doubles point for the fourth straight match, as Jason Jaruvang and David Mushayev cruised to a 6-2 victory over Matt Sweet and Jack Swindells on court two, before Sumeet Shinde and Taoki Takeda duplicated the performance, earning a 6-2 victory over Dennis Baumgartner and Marcus Fritz on court one to clinch the point.
However, Utah State wouldn't go down easily, as it struck first in the singles portion of the event, claiming a victory on court five to quickly knot things back up at 1-1.
But Jason Jaruvang (11-8, 5-4 Dual) wasted no time putting the Cats back on top, as he picked up a straight-set, 6-4, 6-4 win over Marcus Fritz form the No. 3 position for his fourth straight win.
With Arizona up 2-1, the Cats struck again, as David Mushayev (7-8, 5-3 Dual) followed suit on court four, cruising to a 6-4, 6-4 win over Karan Salwan to put the Cats on the brink of victory, up 3-1.
Then it was Naoki Takeda (15-3, 7-0 Dual) who slammed the door shut on the Aggies, taking down Jack Swindells, 6-4, 6-3 on court one to clinch the victory for Arizona, while picking up his eighth consecutive victory in the process.
The Aggies picked up victories on courts six and two to bring the final to 4-3.
Arizona now looks ahead, as it'll look to claim its fifth straight victory, Saturday against Nevada at noon MST in match No. 11 of its season-long 12-match homestand.
