FRESNO, Calif.--- Arizona battled until the very end, but it wasn't quite enough, as the Wildcats fell to Fresno State, 4-3, Thursday afternoon out at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center.
The Bulldogs (9-6) took the doubles point, claiming victories on all three courts to go up 1-0 early, but Arizona (7-10) managed to battle back in singles action.
Euan McIntosh took down Will Kneale (1-3, 1-3 Dual) 6-1, 6-3 on court five, while Joshua Zeoli defeated David Mushayev (8-12, 6-7 Dual) 6-1, 6-2 from the No. 3 spot to take a commanding 3-0 lead.
However, the Wildcats wouldn't go down without a fight, as Jason Jaruvang (13-12, 7-8 Dual) earned a convincing 7-6, 6-1 win over Nikolas Papic on court four to keep the Cats alive in the match, trailing just 3-1.
Fresno State was able to clinch the dual match win, as Adam Glynn narrowly defeated No. 118 Sumeet Shinde (8-6, 6-8 Dual) 7-5, 6-1 on court two.
Moments later, the Cats tacked on two more points, as Shoki Kasahara (15-14, 8-8) grinded out a 7-6, 6-3, 10-0 victory over Youssef Hassan on court six, while No. 45 Naoki Takeda (21-4, 13-1 Dual) continued his superb campaign, earning hard-fought 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 win over Sai Kartik Nakireddi on court one to bring the final to 4-3.
Arizona will try and bounce back this weekend, as it will take on Boise State, Saturday at 1 pm PT before clashing with No. 65 Cal Poly, Sunday at 1 pm PT.
