Cats Drop Heartbreaker to Broncos on Saturday

BOISE, ID--- For the second consecutive match, Arizona competed until the very end, but the Wildcats couldn't quite hang on for the win, as they dropped a 4-3 heartbreaker to Boise State, Saturday out at the Appleton Tennis Center.

Things started off well for Arizona (7-11), as it rallied to clinch the doubles point after falling on court two.  Matt Dunn and Jason Jaruvang posted a convincing 6-2 victory over Brian Foley and Toby Mitchell on court three, while Sumeet Shinde and Naoki Takeda cruised to a 6-2 win on court one to secure the point.

The Wildcats' positive momentum carried over into singles play, as Jason Jaruvang (14-12, 8-8 Dual) easily took down Foley 6-3, 6-1 on court four to spot Arizona a 2-0 lead.

Boise State (6-10) got on the board, after Toby Mitchell defeated David Mushayev (8-13, 6-8 Dual) 6-3, 6-0 from the No. 3 spot.

Then the Broncos secured the point on court six to tie things up at 2-2, as Abe Hewbo downed Shoki Kasahara (15-15, 8-9 Dual) 6-4, 6-4.

But Will Kneale (2-3, 2-3 Dual) quickly put the Wildcats back on top 3-2, as he clinched a straight-set 6-4, 6-3 win on court five to put Arizona on the brink of victory.

However, the Broncos had one more rally left in them, as Garrett Patton handed No. 45 Naoki Takeda (21-5, 13-2 Dual) just his second loss of the spring, grinding out a 7-5, 6-7, 6-2 victory on court one.

Tenreiro then finished off the Boise State comeback attempt, as he grinded out a 6-7, 6-2, 6-3 win over No. 118 Sumeet Shinde on court two.

Arizona aims to get back in the win column, as it will take on Cal Poly, Sunday at 1 pm PT up in Boise, Idaho.
