Arizona Bested by No. 43 Stanford on Saturday

STANFORD, Calif.--- The 43rd ranked Stanford Cardinal proved to be too much, as it defeated Arizona 7-0, Saturday up in Palo Alto.

The Wildcats played without one of their best players for a second straight match, in No. 53 Naoki Takeda, but UA still was able to give Stanford a run in doubles play.

Nolan Paige and David Wilczynski defeated Matt Dunn and Jason Jaruvang 6-2 on court three, but Shoki Kasahara and David Mushayev gave the 40th ranked doubles tandem in the nation all it could handle, as John Morrissey and Robert Stineman just managed to squeak out a 6-4 victory on court one to notch the doubles point.

In singles play, Stineman earned a 6-2, 6-1 win over Kasahara (16-16, 9-10 Dual) on court five to put the Cardinal in front 2-0

No. 43 Fawcett bested Sumeet Shinde (8-9, 8-9 Dual) 6-2, 6-0 from the No. 1 spot, while Paige defeated Will Kneale (2-6, 2-6) 6-2, 6-2 on court four to clinch the match victory for Stanford.

The Cardinal went on to claim victories on the next three courts to bring the final to 7-0.

Arizona will get back after it next Friday when it travels to Los Angeles to take on No. 15 UCLA at 3 pm PT.
