TUCSON, Ariz.--- Junior Jason Jaruvang picked up his 16th victory of the season, while earning his first win from the No. 2 spot, but a depleted Arizona squad didn't have quite enough to defeat No. 56 Oregon, as it fell 4-1, Friday out at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center.
The Wildcats (8-16, 0-5 Pac-12) managed to compete in every match despite being without their top two starters in junior Naoki Takeda and senior Sumeet Shinde.
UA hung tough in doubles play. Oregon's Jayson Amos and Cormac Clissold defeated Will Kneale and Trevor James on court three 6-1, while David Mushayev and Shoki Kasahara battled the Ducks' top tandem of Daan Maasland and Simon Stevens all the way to the end on court one, but eventually fell 6-4, clinching the doubles point for Oregon.
Jaruvang and Matt Dunn were on the verge of victory, as they held a 5-4 advantage over Daniel Sardu and Joey Swaysland before the match was abandoned due to the point being clinched.
Oregon (12-8, 1-4 Pac-12) extended its lead to 2-0 in singles play, after No. 122 Maasland defeated Mushayev in his first career start at the No. 1 position.
The Ducks then went up 3-0, after Joey Swaysland got by Jose Zamorano, 6-4, 6-1 on court six, but the Cats wouldn't go down quietly, as Jaruvang took down Sardu in straight sets 6-2, 7-5 to close the gap to 3-1.
Trevor James did his best to keep Arizona's rally alive, but in the end lost a hard-fought 7-5, 6-2 affair to Clissold, to bring the final to 4-1.
The Wildcats will honor their two seniors Sumeet Shinde and Robin Chou, when they take on No. 62 Washington, Sunday at noon PT in what will mark the final home match of the regular season.
