TUCSON, Ariz. --  The Wildcats won their first home match of the season Saturday afternoon, as they swept UC Riverside, 7-0, at LaNelle Robson Tennis Center.

“It's nice to be back home playing on our home courts with beautiful weather,” said head coach Tad Berkowitz. “As for the match, the guys did a great job putting four quick points on the board, although in some spots we were a little complacent at times. It is something we will work on moving forward.”

The tone was set right away when the Cats took the courts in doubles play. Naoki Takeda and Shoki Kasahara easily defeated Julian Ruffin and Jack Felich on court one, 6-0, while Trent Botha and Harry Busby were second to finish on court three, defeating Hans Baumstark and Sean Robles, 6-0.

Oliver Plaskett and Will Adkisson kept the tone going on court two, as they beat Kyle McCann and Calvin Ngo, 6-1.

Doubles play gave Arizona a 1-0 lead. That same momentum carried over to singles play.

Trent Botha played a quick two sets on court three, defeating Sean Robles, 6-2, 6-0, while Will Kneale defeated Kyle McCann on court four, 6-3, 6-1.

No. 52 Naoki Takeda clinched the match on court one, defeating Julian Ruffin, 6-2, 6-0.

Oliver Plaskett defeated Hans Baumstark after three sets, 6-1, 1-6, 6-0, while Harry Busby pushed Sean Yun to three sets on court two and walked away with a win, 1-6, 6-4, 6-1. 

After a long battle on the court, Shoki Kasahara defeated Calvin Ngo, 6-7(10), 6-2, 10-4. 

The Cats will be back on the courts this Friday, to host New Mexico State at 10 a.m., and on Sunday to host Gonzaga at 12 p.m.
