TUCSON, Ariz. -- The Arizona beach volleyball program and Pac-12 Coach of the Year Steve Walker announced the signing of Jonny Baham, who will join the Wildcats' roster for the 2017-18 season. 
 
"It comes with great satisfaction for many reasons to announce the addition of Jonny to our beach volleyball program," said head coach Steve Walker. "Personally, it has so such meaning to bring Jonny aboard because she is literally the first beach volleyball player I met face to face as the head coach of the program.  It was less than two months after the athletics department announced the addition of beach volleyball as its 20^th sport, that through a mutual friend Jonny and I were introduced to one another." 
 
Baham hails from Carlsbad, California, where she went to La Costa High School. She plays right side and has experience as an indoor and beach player. In 2014 and 2015 she won the High School Beach Championships for San Diego, earned AAA three times this year and is currently ranked 7^th in CBVA for women rated AAA.
 
While attending Arizona, Baham plans on pursuing Physiology and hopes to start a career as a physical therapist, due to her desire to help fellow athletes. 
 
"Beyond the personal meaning, Jonny belongs at this level," said Walker. "To speak to her ability, she earned an 'AAA' rating at the young age of 15 in what could be considered the most competitive circuit on the beach (California Beach Volleyball Association). She is a gifted defender with an abundance of experience and will surely help us as we look to continue to move the program forward.  We are very excited to welcome Jonny to the program." 
 
As UA's sole 2017-18 signee, Jonny's presence on the team will make a large impact on an already young and successful program.
