TUCSON, Ariz., - A shorthanded Arizona squad couldn't keep up with No. 48 UC Santa Barbara, as they lost 6-1 this afternoon at LaNelle Robson Tennis Center, putting the Cats at 6-4 on the season.
“When playing good teams, it's about resetting as a group when they make a run on us,” said head coach Tad Berkowitz. “We had some momentum going at the beginning of singles, but UCSB countered well and we were unable to turn things back around.”
In doubles play, Oliver Plaskett and Trent Botha were defeated by Nathan Eshmade and Miles Seeman 6-1 on court one, while Will Adkisson and Jason Jaruvang were defeated on court two by Nicolas Moreno de Alboran and Chase Masciorini 6-4.
Shoki Kasahara and Will Kneale were tied with Oliver Sec and Anders Holm on court three 4-4, but their match was abandoned.
Trent Botha lost to Morgan Mays 6-3, 6-2 on court three and Will Kneale defeated Oliver Sec on court four 6-3, 6-4, advancing Kneale to 6-0 on the season.
Harry Busby was defeated by Nathan Eshmade 7-5, 6-3 on court one, while Oliver Plaskett was defeated by Cody Rakela on court five 6-4, 7-5.
Shoki Kasahara fought hard but fell to Anders Holm, 7-5, 7-6(2). Jason Jaruvang pushed Nicolas Moreno de Alboran to three sets, but after a hard fought match he lost 4-6, 7-5, 7-6(3).
The Cats will be back at LaNelle Robson Tennis center this Friday to take on Nevada at 10 a.m.
