TUCSON, Ariz., -- The Wildcats put up a fight against Loyola Marymount this afternoon but couldn't pick up the win, as they lost 4-3 at the Lodge at Ventana Canyon.
“I felt we played well in spots but in order for us to beat solid teams like LMU, we all need to click 1-6,” said head coach Tad Berkowitz.
The short-handed squad started the afternoon off in doubles play. Shoki Kasahara and Harry Busby were defeated by Lukas Moenter and Luke Bohuslav 6-0 while Oliver Plaskett and Will Kneale were defeated by Joat Farah and Errol Smith 6-4, giving LMU the doubles point.
Jason Jaruvang and Will Adkisson were tied with Charles Boyce and Cristobal Rivera 4-4 before their match was abandoned.
Arizona stepped up their game in singles play but couldn't get the win. Errol Smith defeated Harry Busby on court two 6-0, 6-2, while Joat Farah beat Trent Botha on court four 6-3, 6-1, giving LMU a 3-0 lead over Arizona.
Shoki Kasahara put Arizona's first point on the board, as he beat Lukas Moenter 6-3, 6-4 on court six. Jason Jaruvang fought hard but fell to Charles Boyce on court one 7-5, 6-4, clinching the match for LMU.
Will Kneale beat Cristobal Rivera 7-6, 6-3 on court three, putting Kneale at 11-1 on the season.
Oliver Plaskett came out with a win after pushing Luke Bohuslav to three sets on court five 3-6, 7-6, 10-8, giving Arizona their third point for the match.
With a 4-3 loss, the Cats are 8-7 on the season.
The Wildcats will be back at The Lodge at Ventana Canyon Saturday to take on Fresno State at 12 p.m. MST.
