TUCSON, Ariz., -- The Wildcats couldn't keep up with No. 4 UCLA, as they were beat 4-0 today at LaNelle Robson Tennis Center, putting them at 8-15 on the season.
“UCLA was too good today,” said head coach Tad Berkowitz. “They are a top five team, although we did battle them in spots. We will regroup and get ready for USC, another strong team.”
After about an hour delay due to rain, the Cats started off in doubles play. Although the Cats lost the doubles point, their energy and intensity made it a close match. Naoki Takeda and Will Adkisson were beat by Karue Sell and Joseph Di Giulio 6-2 on court two.
Oliver Plaskett and Will Kneale pushed Mackenzie McDonald and Martin Redlicki but fell short 7-6 on court one, giving UCLA the doubles point.
Matt Dunn and Shoki Kasahara were tied with Austin Rapp and Maxime Cressy 6-6 on court three until their match was abandoned.
The Cats struggled through singles play as they trailed UCLA 1-0. Will Adkisson was beat by Logan Staggs 6-2, 6-3 on court five while Shoki Kasahara was beat by Karue Sell 6-2, 6-1 on court four, giving UCLA a 3-0 lead.
Will Kneale was beat by No. 47 Martin Redlicki 6-3, 6-3 on court two, which clinched the match for UCLA.
Naoki Takeda was tied with No. 9 Mackenzie McDonald on court one 3-3 until their match was abandoned.
Trevor James, who has not played a home match this season came out with a strong showing in his second set, as he was tied 5-5 on court six until his match was abandoned.
Oliver Plaskett, who moved his way up to court three was down 2-5 in his second set.
Arizona will take on USC this Sunday at 12 p.m. MST at LaNelle Robson Tennis Center.
