Wildcats Fall to Fresno State, Ready For LMU Tomorrow

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Arizona men's tennis team is now 6-3 on the season following today's 3-4 loss to Fresno State inside of the LMU Tennis Center. The Wildcats have less than a day to regroup before facing Loyola Marymount tomorrow at 1 p.m. MST.

"Congratulations to Fresno State and to my brother on the win," said head coach Clancy Shields. "They were the tougher team in the big moments and found ways to win when it mattered. There were some bright spots today for us with Trent, Will, and Alejandro's performances. Trent played his most complete match of the season, Will kept working to turn the match around, and Alejandro played solid all the way through."

Arizona lost a crucial doubles point, meaning they faced a 1-0 deficit headed into singles. Senior Will Adkisson and junior Shoti Meparidze fell to Fresno State's Euan McIntosh and Patrik Pech by a score of 6-4 on court one. Shortly after, senior Will Kneale and junior Shoki Kasahara fell to Youssef Hassan and Zdenek Derkas on court three.

Singles competition was very competitive with Arizona getting wins on courts two, three, and four, but the Wildcats would fall just short. Kneale won a close, tie-breaker match against McIntosh by a score of 2-6, 7-6, 10-8 on court two. Junior Trent Botha tacked on another point for Arizona with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Derkas on court three, and freshman Alejandro Reguant claimed Arizona's third point with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Henrique Osorio on court four.

"We have another match tomorrow, and we will need to have a collective effort to beat LMU on their home courts," said Shields.
