TUCSON, Ariz. – The Arizona men's tennis team couldn't split their weekend in Los Angeles, as they dropped their second match in two days in a 2-5 loss to Loyola Marymount University. The rain delayed loss puts the Wildcats at 6-4 on the season.
"It is tough to take two losses on the road," said head coach
Clancy Shields. "Both matches were close, and there were opportunities that we didn't capitalize on in both of them. We have to address those areas and keep moving forward. We can't hang out heads as we have a big tournament coming up. We will see how well we are able to bounce back after a tough weekend."
Arizona's woes in doubles competition continued against LMU where senior Luke Bohuslav and freshman Ryan Brown defeated senior
Will Kneale and junior
Shoki Kasahara on court three not long before sophomore
Will Adkisson and junior
Trent Botha fell on court one to LMU's Nick Borchenko and Max Kaiser.
After taking the doubles point, LMU would secure the victory and take a 4-0 lead with wins on courts one, three, and five. Despite the outcome being decided, the two teams continued playing. Freshman
Alejandro Reguant bested LMU freshman Gabriel Diaz Freire by a score of 6-3, 7-5 on court four, and senior
Oliver Plaskett won a tough, three-set affair against LMU junior Aex Bourgeois (6-4, 3-6, 6-1) on court six. Plaskett's win temporarily brought the score to 2-4 before it was finalized at 2-5 after an LMU win on court two.
The Wildcats have under a week to prepare for their next challenge: HEB Tennis Tournament
In Corpus Christi Texas which begins Thursday, March 2nd.
