DENVER - The Arizona men's tennis team couldn't upset No. 45 Cal Poly in Denver today and is headed back to Tucson with an 8-7 record after their 5-2 loss to the Mustangs.
"The guys are competing and leaving it all on the court," said head coach
Clancy Shields. "They've got to keep pulling the greatness out of each other and continue to improve before Pac-12 season. It was a good weekend for Trent and Shoki who were both undefeated in singles play. Andres has been a leader off the court for us this year, and I cant say enough good things about him."
Sophomore
Will Adkisson and junior
Shoti Meparidze dropped their doubles match against Cal Poly seniors Ben Donovan and Corey Pang on court one by a score of 6-0. Senior
Oliver Plaskett and junior
Trent Botha fell to Cal Poly senior Tim Tan and junior Karl Enader on court two by a score of 6-3, guaranteeing the Mustangs the doubles point.
Cal Poly senior Garrett Auproux widened the Mustang's lead by taking down freshman
Alejandro Reguant on court four (6-2, 6-2), but Botha brought Arizona back within one with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over sophomore Josh Ortlip on court three.
Cal Poly secured the win with victories on courts one, two, and six, before Arizona junior
Shoki Kasahara bested Cal Poly freshman Antoine Noel (6-4, 7-6 on court five to finalize the score at 5-2.
The Wildcats have just five days to prepare for their next contest: The San Diego Classic, which spans March16-18.
