Arizona to Open Conference Play in California

TUCSON, Ariz –  The 9-9 Arizona men's tennis team is in California to take on their first conference opponents of the 2017 season. The Wildcats will face 22nd-ranked Stanford in their only live-streamed match of the season on Friday March 31 at 3:00 p.m. MST before they attempt to upset No. 9 California the following day at 1:00 p.m. MST.

Stanford is currently 10-4 on the season and has beaten three ranked opponents: No. 6 California on March 7,  No. 8 Texas on March 10, and No. 25 Illinois on March 27. The Cardinal bring three ranked players to the table including junior, No. 15 Tom Fawcett as well as sophomores No. 99 Michael Genender and No. 115 Sameer Kumar.  The last time Arizona and Stanford faced off was in Tucson on Friday, March 25, 2016 when the Wildcats fell by a score of 4-1. In that match, junior Will Kneale bested Kumar (6-2, 6-2) who was ranked No. 101 in the country at the time.
 
The Golden Bears are currently 13-5 on the season and feature four ranked players: seniors No. 13 Florian Lakat, No.48 Andre Goransson, and No. 108 Fillip Bergevi as well as junior, No. 71 Billy Griffith. California is coming off of a three-win streak which has seen them best Oklahoma(4-1), Yale(4-3), and Illinois (4-3) late in the month of March and will face Utah at home a day before facing Arizona.  The last time Arizona and California competed was on Sunday, March 27 2016, when the Golden Bears swept the Wildcats inside of LaNelle Robson.
