STANFORD, Calif. –  The Arizona men's tennis team couldn't upset No. 22 Stanford today in California, and fell to the Cardinal 4-0 to drop to 9-10 on the season.
 
"The guys competed hard and we gave ourselves some opportunities in a few matches," said head coach Clancy Shields. "We have got to play within ourselves from the first point. I thought we were overplayed at the start of the match and couldn't dig our way out of the hole we made. We will improve on this tomorrow against a good Cal team."
 
Freshman Andres Reyes saw the first dual action of his college career as he joined senior Will Kneale for doubles competition on court three. The duo couldn't figure out Stanford senior Brandon Sutter and junior David Wilcynski, however, and fell 6-0. The Cardinal secured the doubles point when junior Tom Fawcett and senior Yale Goldberg bested senior Oliver Plaskett on junior Trent Botha on court one (6-3).
 
Stanford increased their lead to 2-0 when No. 115 Sameer Kumar bested Kneale on court two (6-2, 6-3). Reyes fell to Stanford freshman William Genesen on court five (6-3, 6-1) not long before Goldberg bested sophomore Will Adkisson on court four (6-3, 6-0) to finalize the score at 4-0.
 
The Wildcats will attempt to rebound tomorrow against No. 9 California. The Golden Bears are currently 13-5 on the season and feature four ranked players: seniors No. 13 Florian Lakat, No.48 Andre Goransson, and No. 108 Fillip Bergevi as well as junior, No. 71 Billy Griffith. California is coming off of a three-win streak which has seen them best Oklahoma(4-1), Yale(4-3), and Illinois (4-3) late in the month of March and will face Utah at home a day before facing Arizona.  The last time Arizona and California competed was on Sunday, March 27 2016, when the Golden Bears swept the Wildcats inside of LaNelle Robson.
