TUCSON, Ariz. – After coming off of a bye-week the No. 8 ranked Arizona Wildcats are ready to hit the sand for two of its final team home matches.
"Coming off Easter, a weekend without competing, I know our team is very eager to get back out on the sand vs. someone other than ourselves", said head coach
Steve Walker. "Last time we took to the sand the elements really played a factor in how we approached our play and I felt we were far too tentative. We've addressed all or most those of issues the last several practices and look to be a team that's going to hard to beat."
Arizona will open up the weekend of play on Friday, April 21 with a single-day match against Stanford at 6pm MST.
The Cats will then go on to celebrate its seniors the following day on Senior Day as they take on Cal at noon MST.
This will be the first match-up this season for Arizona and the two Northern California teams.
UA holds a (13-8) record, recently earning victories against Concordia University-Irvine and Washington when they competed in the UCLA Invite.
The No. 1 senior twin duo of Madison and
McKenna Witt and No. 3 pair of
Hailey Devlin and
Sam Manley lead the team with a (15-6) and (16-5) record respectively.
Halli Amaro,
Madison Witt, and
McKenna Witt will all be honored before this Saturday's match. Close family members and friends will accompany the No. 8 Cats on Bear Down Beach.
The seniors honored are apart of the start of the then Arizona Sand Volleyball program.
"I truly can't believe we've reached senior weekend with the program's first ever recruiting class; and I am including Halli in that class as well", said Walker. "Madison, McKenna and Halli have meant so very much to this department of athletics, community, this program and to the sport really. They've all grown as the sport has grown over the last few years and it's been an incredible ride for those three.
While I am here and in this position, in terms of what they meant to me personally, they will always be the class that all other recruiting classes will be compared to in my mind. They are going to leave behind a remarkable legacy and will surely be missed."
