Salt Lake City, Utah. – The Arizona men's tennis team dropped a close match to Utah in their final regular season contest of 2017, ending the season with a 9-16 record and no conference wins.
"Congratulations to Andres for getting his first college win," said head coach
Clancy Shields. "He showed a lot of maturity. Trent is trending upwards and has a bright future in front of him as well. Collectively as a team we just have to pay the price to win in the Pac-12. It's a steep price to pay, it takes a tremendous effort from everyone involved, but it will be worth it when we do."
Arizona dropped the doubles point with losses on courts three and two, but junior
Trent Botha tied things up in singles play with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Utah junior Santiago Sierra on court three. Freshman
Andres Reyes secured his first singles match victory and gave Arizona a 2-1 lead with a two set win over Aggie junior Egbert Weverink on court six.
Arizona couldn't keep the momentum rolling, however. Utah Sophomore David Micevski tied things up with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Senior
Will Kneale on court one. Junior
Shoki Kasahara dropped a match against Utah freshman Slava Shainyan on court four not long before Utah senior Parker McGuiness finalized the score at 4-2 with a win over senior
Oliver Plaskett on court five.
The Wildcats have just four days to prepare for the start of the Pac-12 championships which begins April, 26th in Ojai, California.
