OJAI, Calif. – The Arizona men's tennis team will face fifth-seeded Stanford in the first round of the 2017 Pac-12 Men's Tennis Championship in Ojai, California on Wednesday at 1 p.m. MST. The Wildcats enter the tournament as an 8-seed after compiling a 0-7 conference record during the regular season.
"We are looking forward playing a tough Stanford team," said head coach
Clancy Shields. " I think our guys are playing hard and with some good confidence. We need a complete performance from everyone. We have had some great individual performances this year, and if we can put it all together on the same day, we will put ourselves in a good position to be successful."
Stanford holds a 14-7 overall record and has gone 4-3 in conference play. The Cardinal are currently ranked 17th in the nation and is coming off of a loss to No. 11 California on April 22. Stanford features two ranked singles players: No. 11, junior Tom Fawcett and No. 112, sophomore Michael Genender.
The last time Arizona faced Stanford was on March 31st in California. The Wildcats fell to the Cardinal 4-0 in that match.
The winner of Wednesdays match will play fourth-seeded Oregon on Thursday at 12 p.m. in the quarterfinals.
