SANTA MONICA, Calif.– The Arizona Beach Volleyball team concluded its weekend of play in the UCLA Invite garnering a (2-2) over the weekend. UA earned a victory against Washington, (3-2) and fell to No. 3 UCLA, (1-4) to close out the day of play.
Arizona now holds a (13-8) record with more play to go in the UCLA Invite. The Beach Cats No. 1 pair of Madison and
McKenna Witt and No. 3 duo of
Hailey Devlin and
Sam Manley lead the team with a (15-6) and a (16-5) record respectively.
The Wildcats began the day of play taking on the Huskies. The No. 1 pair of Madison and
McKenna Witt dropped to UW's Crissy Jones and Tia Scambray in consecutive sets, (18-21, 18-21).
Hailey Devlin and
Sam Manley would then go on to pick up a win for the Cats as they downed the No. 3 pair of Shayne McPherson and Destiny Julye, (21-11, 21-12). UA's No. 2 tandem of
Olivia Macdonald and
Olivia Hallaran put another point on the board for Arizona as they defeated Courtney Schwan and Cassie Strickland in straight sets, (21-18, 21-19). To secure the win for the Wildcats,
Mia Mason and
Kendra Dahlke the No. 4 team dominated against Carly DeHoog and Lindsay Chalmers, (21-16, 21-15). The Huskies No. 5 pair of Anna Crabtree and Mel Wade took the match to three sets and picked up a win against
Halli Amaro and
Brooke Burling , (18-21, 21-13, 13-15).
In the following hours, UA geared up to take on No. 3 UCLA to close out the two-day tournament in Santa Monica. The Bruins No. 2 duo of Kamila Tan and Madi Yeomans picked up the first win for UCLA against
Olivia Macdonald and
Olivia Hallaran, (14-21, 11-21). Madison and
McKenna Witt of the Wildcats No. 1 team fought hard, but fell to the Bruins twin duo of Megan McNamara and Nicole McNamara, (17-21, 16-21). UCLA's Jordan Anderson and Izzy Carey would then go on to pick up another win against UA as they defeated No. 4 pair of
Mia Mason and
Brooke Burling, (15-21, 14-21).
Hailey Devlin and
Sam Manley took the match to three sets, but fell in the third to the Bruins No. 3 duo of Elise Zappia and Torrey Van Winden, (14-21, 21-15, 10-15). To conclude the weekend of play UA's
Halli Amaro and
Natalie Anselmo battled it out in thtree sets and took the match against Savvy Simo and Chanti Holroyd, (18-21, 21-19, 16-14).
UA will head back home to began play on April 21-22 as they take on Stanford and Cal.
