MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- The Arizona Wildcats left the Blue Gray Classic with a third-place finish on Saturday.
 
The day began with the completion of a rain delayed Alabama match. The doubles portion of the match was won by Alabama on Friday afternoon. Arizona junior Jonas Maier evened the score up at 1 with his 6-3, 6-4 win over Edson Ortiz. Sophomore Alejandro Reguant followed up with a 6-2, 6-2 win against Alexey Nesterov. Alabama rallied to win the next three singles matches to improve to 14-0 on the season.
 
The second match of the day was a consolation match against the Fresno State Bulldogs. The Bulldogs earned the doubles point with a pair of 6-2 victories.
 
Singles play came down to the wire, and it took a three-set victory for Hassey to clinch the 4-3 win for the Cats. Pollanen got Arizona on the board first with his 6-1, 6-3 victory over Jeremy Moser. Malbasic evened the score up at 2 with his straight sets win, and Karpovets rallied back from a set down to keep the Cats alive and make it 3-3. Hassey's win gave the Cats third place on the weekend.

"Wow, what an amazing night of tennis," head coach Clancy Shields said. "We battled Alabama with everything we had in the semis, then had to back up that tough loss against a feisty Fresno State team. Everybody left everything on the court today. I couldn't be prouder of our team's effort. We definitely have come together as one team this weekend and I believe this weekend will propel us forward into the second half of our season."
 
Arizona finishes the weekend with a record of 10-5 for the season. Next up for the Cats is the Pacific Coast Doubles Tournament in La Jolla.
