SALT LAKE CITY, Utah. -- The Arizona Wildcats fell 4-3 to the Utah Utes on Friday, despite two comeback wins in singles play for the Cats.
 
Utah wasted no time securing the doubles point. Joey Woolley and Egbert Weverink defeated Carlos Hassey and Filip Malbasic 6-1 to start off doubles play. The Utah pairing of Dan Little and Azat Hankuliyev clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win over Jonas Maier and Alejandro Reguant.
 
Singles play came down to the wire with five of the six matches going three sets. Woolley earned the first singles point over Arizona senior Trent Botha, but Alejandro Reguant answered with a win over Santiago Sierra 7-5, 1-6, 6-2. Igor Karpovets evened up the score when he came back from a set down against Dan Little. Maier pulled the Cats ahead by defeating Randy Cory 4-6, 7-6, 6-4, but the Utes answered by taking the final two singles matched to win 4-3.
 
"This is a tough match to swallow especially after having a team match point," said head coach Clancy Shields. "I'm proud of our guys for the fight they had and never giving up. There were some really resilient performances from our guys and some spots, especially in doubles, where we are giving the matches away. Congratulations to Utah on the win and the great season they are having. They elevated their level in the big moments a little better than us today. We will be back stronger next week because of today."
 
The loss drops the Cats to 15-9 on the season and 0-3 in Pac-12 play. Up next for the Cats is a showdown against the Washington Huskies on Friday.
