TUCSON, Ariz. -- The three-match winning streak for the Wildcats came to an end on Friday, as they fell to the Stanford Cardinal by a score of 4-0.
 
The Cardinal had the edge from the very beginning, taking quick command in the doubles matches. Stanford's Timothy Sah and David Wilczynski defeated Trent Botha and Filip Malbasic to lead off for the Cardinal. Alex Geller and Tom Fawcett sealed the doubles point by beating Arizona's Reguant/Maier pairing.
 
Singles followed the same course as doubles with the Stanford men taking control from the onset of play. Axel Geller was the first on the board for the Cardinal, defeating freshman Aaro Pollanen 6-3, 6-2. Michael Genender handed Alejandro Reguant his third singles loss of the season, beating him 6-3, 6-1. Tom Fawcett closed out the day on court one with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Igor Karpovets. The rest of the singles matches went unfinished.
 
"Congratulations to Stanford, they are having a great season and were too good today," said head Coach Clancy Shields. "We are young and will grow from this loss. We have to continue to focus on our mental approach and our preparation rather than be consumed by our opponent. It is a process and hopefully we can learn and improve on this for Sunday's match against Cal."
 
That match against Cal will take place at noon on Sunday.
