Arizona State continued the momentum into singles play, rattling off matches on the first three courts to win 4-0. The 20th-ranked Michael Geerts kicked the scoring off with a 6-3, 6-3 win over
Igor Karpovets. Makey Rakotomalala followed up with a 7-6, 6-3 win against Malbasic. Benjamin Hannestad held off
Aaro Pollanen 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 to seal the match for the Sun Devils.
"I'm seeing a lot of growth in our team regardless of this loss," said head coach
Clancy Shields. "The guys fought hard and continue to battle every time. We had two players with match points in singles, and a couple opportunities left out there. We are playing at a good level right now, but letting the score dictate how we play on big points. We've got to settle down, calm ourselves, and play the way that got us to those winning moments. We are looking forward to the Pac-12 tournament next week."
The Pac-12 Championship begin on Wednesday, April 25
th in Ojai, California.
