Sophomore
Jared Horwood won three singles matches last fall and had a doubles record of 4-2 before sustaining an injury that kept him out of action during the spring of last season. This fall season, Horwood has a 6-5 singles record over three tournaments and 4-4 in doubles.
ArizonaWildcats.com asked Jared about how he got into tennis, what inspired him, and how he enjoys tennis at Arizona.
Q: Who was your biggest inspiration growing up?
A: I have to say on the tennis court, it was my dad. My dad was a Wildcat back in the day, he played on the tennis team. Growing up I always thought Arizona was going to be the place for me and just to follow in his footsteps, he's my idol and always has been.
Q: What are you looking forward to in your second year of college?
A: Getting a feel for everything last year, I'm looking forward to taking advantage of the opportunities that I found last year. I was just scouting out the place last year and as a sophomore I know a little bit more about the school and what I can work towards and what I can achieve.
Q: How do you handle pressure going into a match or a tournament?
A: Handling pressure is a tough thing. As an individual, you are just competing for yourself and you don't really know what to expect. When you are competing for a team and a band of brothers, you forget about the pressure because you are fighting for not only yourself but for them
Q: What is your favorite thing about tennis at the University of Arizona?
A: It's probably the family environment. Everybody on the team and all the coaches are really close together. You really feel like you are playing for a band of brothers and just playing at this facility is unbelievable. To know that you are not just playing for yourself is one of the greatest things ever.
