WEEKLY NOTES

WILDCATS SET FOR FINAL PAC-12 ROAD TRIP
  • Arizona volleyball (12-14, 2-12) will hit the road for its final Pac-12 road trip this season. Arizona will face Oregon (7-16, 3-11) and Oregon State (9-16, 3-11 Pac-12) in the Beaver State this weekend.
  • With six games remaining in the 2019 season, Arizona currently sits 12th in the conference, but is just one game behind both of its opponents this weekend; Arizona is 2-12 in league play while both Oregon and Oregon State are 3-11.
  • Earlier this season, Arizona split with Oregon and Oregon State; the Cats defeated Oregon in four sets on Oct. 27 and could not hold a 2-0 lead in a five-set loss to Oregon State on Oct. 25 in Tucson.
  • Last season, the Wildcats pulled off the rare road sweep during its trip to Oregon; Arizona beat #12 Oregon in Eugene on Sept. 28, 2018 and then Oregon State in Crovallis on Sept. 30, 2018.
  • The Wildcats will face the Ducks at 8 p.m. MST on Friday before taking on the Beavers on Sunday at 1 p.m. MST.
  • Last Week: Arizona is coming off a pair of straight-set losses to a couple of top-20 teams. Arizona fell to #20 California on Thursday and #5 Stanford on Saturday in Tucson.
  • What to Watch for: Arizona's ever-long quest to get healthy continues this week; the Wildcats are currently down two outside hitters and one middle blocker due to concussions ... Paige Whipple and Katie Smoot have shouldered the load in the absence of concusssed Elizabeth Shelton, Whittnee Nihipali and Shardonee Hayes; Whipple has at least 13 kills in each of her last nine matches while Smoot has had double-digit kills in six of her last seven ... After posting 20 blocks in the last two weeks, Devyn Cross enters the week 11 blocks shy of No. 400 for her career; she will become the eighth player in UA history to cross the 400-block mark if she reaches it.
  • Live Coverage: Arizona's match vs. Oregon will be televised on Pac-12 Arizona/Oregon; both matches will be streamed on pac-12.com/live ... Live stats for both matches are available at arizonastats.com ... Follow this weekend's action and all season long on Twitter (@ArizonaVBall).

QUICK HITS
  • Two weeks ago, senior setter Julia Patterson became the first player in a Power 5 Conference this season to record a triple-double when she notched 46 assists, 13 digs and 10 kills vs. Utah. It was the first in Patterson's career and first by a Wildcat in at least a decade. Patterson, who led the Pac-12 in double-doubles last season with 21, is second this year with 12, including a league-most nine during Pac-12 play.
  • Patterson is the top attacking setter in the Pac-12, averaging 1.17 kills/set, currently the most kills/set by a UA setter since Dana Burkholder averaged 1.53 kills/set in 2001.
  • Arizona is on the road for the final time this season this weekend before returning home for the final four matches of the year. Arizona is 7-5 at home and just 2-8 on the road this season.
  • Devyn Cross leads the Pac-12 and is sixth nationally in hitting percentage (.420). Cross is trying to become the first Wildcat since Marissa DaLee in 2000 (.437, the Arizona single-season record) to lead the NCAA in hitting percentage.
  • Earlier this season at California (10/13), Julia Patterson became the seventh player in Arizona history to record 3,000 career assists, moving into seventh place in Arizona history. She enters this week with 3,249 career assists, 258 shy of sixth in UA history.
  • For the second straight season, the Wildcats are dealing with a handful of concussions. Three of UA's top six hitters -- Shardonee Hayes, Whittnee Nihipali and Elizabeth Shelton -- have missed extended time with concussions. In their absence, Arizona's normal libero, freshman Kamaile Hiapo, has played opposite during Arizona's last six matches. Hiapo has averaged 0.69 kills and 3.15 digs per set in her six-game stint.
  • Arizona senior Emi Pua'a has played the last 10 games at libero after Hiapo was injured prior to being called into action at outside hitter. Pua'a has at least 12 digs in 10 of her last 12 matches, including a career-high 29 digs vs. Washington, tied for 11th most overall in a match in Arizona history and tied for sixth in a four-set match in UA history.
  • The Wildcats are 12-1 when posting a better hitting percentage than their opponents and 0-13 when they are outhit by their opponent. UA is 7-1 when hitting .300 or better and 9-2 when holding its opponents to .200 or worse.
  • Head coach Dave Rubio is in his 28th season as the Wildcats' head coach. Last season, Rubio became the second coach in Pac-12 history to surpass 500 victories as a league coach and currently has a career record of 524-335 (.615) at Arizona and ranks 15th among all active coaches in the NCAA with 646 career wins, including his 122 wins at Cal State Bakersfield.

OREGON DUCKS (7-13, 3-11 Pac-12)
  • Team Notes: Oregon has last three straight, including a pair of losses to #14 Washington and #24 Washington State last week ... The Ducks are led by Ronika Stone, who averages 3.25 kills/set on .305 hitting ... Oregon is fourth in the Pac-12 in service aces (1.35/set), led by Brooke Nuneviller (0.26/set).
  • Head Coach: Matt Ulmer (3rd season; 48-39)
  • Series History: Arizona 48, Oregon 21

OREGON STATE BEAVERS (9-16, 3-11 Pac-12)
  • Team Notes: Oregon State has lost five consecutive matches after defeating Arizona in Tucson ... The Beavers average 2.28 blocks/set, led by Karson Bacon, who averages 1.00 blocks/set ... OSU's  head coach Mark Barnard's daughter, Isabella, is a manager on the Arizona team.
  • Head Coach: Mark Barnard (4th season; 53-68)
